Downsized

I never would have thought just little over a year ago,
that we would have
downsized.

Downsized our house
 from this to
this.

Our old house had
6 bedrooms
4 full baths
2 laundry rooms
2 kitchens
you get the point
bigger than these

4 people and 2 dogs needed.
(Wayne was taking the photo!)

Funny when we started to evaluate
what rooms we lived in, I mean really spent time in,
we narrowed it down to
the family room
the kitchen
the breakfast room
and of course the
 bedrooms.

We were blessed to have been able to design and
build our old home!  And it served us well for 7 years.
But two years ago I started
hearing God speaking to my heart...
downsize.
So we started looking for where
He would lead us to go.

In His wisdom and grace
He led us here

Our 3 bedroom
2 1/2 bath
HOME!

We have been richly blessed!
In keeping with a recent blog trend of
"keeping it real"
the journey hasn't been all rainbows and unicorns!
If you regularly follow my blog,
you know that we spent most of last year
gutting and rebuilding the new house.

We encountered...
termites
asbestos scares
exploding grinder blades,
rust in the eyes... not once but twice,
fatigue like I've never known before,
misordered doors and windows,
kids who lived on Ramen because
the parents were "at the house",
the 6 of us "practiced" downsizing
by cramming into a
small 2 bedroom apartment
for 5 months,
multiple leaky ceilings
to name a few.
Just keeping it real!

Through it all God provided!
His strengtht, His love, His healing
and in the end
we were better for it.
Stronger
Wiser
 I might even add
Happier!

Now, on any given night of the week
you can find us here
watching reruns of NCIS.
Or here
whipping up dinner, cupcakes
even an art project or two!
or here
 at the table eating together!

Life is an adventure and whether
we were in the big house,
tiny apartment
or
 our new "just right" home
we are a family.

And
We are Blessed.

Love, love. love your new home!! It really looks cozy and warm. Now, we could certainly use the first one --especially with three kids, a recording studio in the master bedroom, and so on, lol. I too had a much larger house before this one, but I could not be happier and feel more blessed.

I just love your home and your story. The journey to your new home can't have been an easy one but it means so much to have a home that fits and suits your life and family I think.

You are so right Dee Dee! Your home is beautiful! But that's because of the love that's inside not the square footage!

Your first home is gorgeous...so bigs. But I can't help it I am a fan of the Capes! And I love the traditional white siding and black shutters, so charminh and cozy~ I also live in a Cape and when we replace our roof, which will be in the next year or two, I place to go with that traditional look you have. And the inside of your home is so wseet...it looks like it's smiling at me!!! Kudos to you for knowing when to downside and go through with it...you so made a right decision here!!!

You guys have done such an amazing job on your house! That kitchen is so gorgeous! Yes, it is all about the love in the house, not the size. It's funny how we did the opposite - my husband and I worked on totally renovating our first home over 5 years and when we moved to Raleigh, we were tired of that and got a big huge new construction home. Right now it's nice to have our space after feeling like sardines in our old home, but it is a lot to clean!

It is so true that we really need each other and a 'certain' amount of room to make it a home. I love your new place...seems pretty perfect to me.

You and your family are a role models for anyone!
God first, then Family, along with others!

Yes, you are keeping it real. That is why I call you my friend!

Downsizing is very contagious!

Oh my Dee Dee, you're new home is simply gorgeous. I'm in love with your kitchen and that pot filler over the stove. When we redo our kitchen one of those is definitely going on my wish list!

Hey Dee Dee...

Thank you so much for your comment! We would have taken all 4 if we could have. At the time we were adopting many of the laws governing Kazak adoptions were being revised. We were probablyone of the last families to leave with 2 children and in under 7 weeks!

We often wonder if the children we couldn't take home found forever loving families...our hope is that they did!

What a gift Michael and Grace have been in our lives.

I'm so glad that I didn't miss this post. When you first started your project...have to say that I couldn't imagine giving up such a gorgeous house for all that work. However...you still have a gorgeous house and I really do think that through all of the work, something really special happened for you and your family. I really enjoyed going through this transformation with you!

wow, major change. we have had to do that a lot as missionaries. We sold about 80% of what we owned to prepare to go to the mission field. it was freeing but once we got to our new home and country I definitely struggled with not having those things we sold. 4yrs later I don't miss it, lol.
