What's in a name...?

Well,
 we did it....
our resolve,
dissolved.

In spite of not only seeing the benefits to one pup
as well as having a much cleaner, hair free home...
allow me to introduce you to...
our new Mastiff puppy!
No, I'm not kidding when I say puppy!
She is only 10 months old,
and if we have to guess...
only 115 pounds give or take a few.
Which means, since Mastiffs grow until they are
around 18 months old... she is bound to
only get bigger!
We found her via Petfinders.
She was an owner release,
(too big, can't go to an apartment)
and we drove about 2 1/2 hours north to
Wooster, Ohio to pick her up yesterday!
Caribou, our other dog,
was so excited to come on the trip too!
At least until,
we put her in the car to come home with us!
A new family portrait!
See her "puppy" paws....!
Zac, who has large paws himself,
helps to demonstrate just how big those paws are!
We can't wait to see what she will look like when
she grows into her paws and head!

Thankfully she comes potty trained and
has been taught some basic commands!
However,
she came with a name we are looking to change.
That name...Mercedes.
Although we can joke and now say we own a Mercedes,
the poor little thing needs a new name...
We've tossed around
Jersey,
Lynx,
Wooster,
Puma
and Latte.
I've told the family that if we
don't decide on something soon
I will continue to call her Baby Girl!
All this indecision has just
Worn us out!

Our next door neighbor fosters mastiffs, many at a time, so we are well familiar!!! How glorious for you all! Enjoy.

She looks like a sweet dog. I know mastiffs are big dogs but I can't believe the size of her paws already!! A cute family portrait!

What a great family picture.
I vote for "Baby Girl" as her name. It's cute and endearing.
Happy family! Happy dog!
Congratulations to all of you.
How big will she get? Whew!

I knew you couldn't hold out! Congratulations. She certainly will need a name befitting of her size. Can't wait to meet her in person. Thank you for saving the life of another unwanted pet. Love ya, Aunt Jude

Wow, DD - now THAT is a puppy!!! She is really cute! I know she will love her new 'people'. I looked on line for names for a female mastiff. Interesting! The one that made me chuckle was Tinkerbell. ;-)I love the name Molly... not very creative, eh? Hugs all around, Aunt Theta

Do I get to vote? I love the name Latte!

This is some puppy. I love puppies, I have to hold myself back from having a houseful. Our very old beagle is much too spoiled to share her life these days. I can't believe you took the dog with you to pick up the new one. That could have been a disaster ride home!

She's so cute and so big...I don't like them tiny, but I've never had a big dog!

Kudos to you for saving that sweet baby! She is gorgeous! Our shelter doggie has turned out to be first and foremost in this family. Don't know what we would do without him.

Hope you have a great week, and thanks for stopping by my little blog!

Hi DeeDee! I'm so glad I came by to see your new baby! Adorable!
That's funny...now you own a Mercedes. I kinda like that name. My sister had a friend named that when we were growing up. I thought is was so cool and different. I guess she should be named Yukon or Suburban instead of Mercedes. I know you love her already.
I call our lab Sugar "Land Shark" The way she moves through the house. My neighbor got me a t-shirt with that beer on it.

We lost our last Mastiff to old age (12)several years back and decided we were too old to get another one. In other words, by the time it reaches maturity, I may be too mature to help hoist it up into the truck to visit the vet :D
They are woderful pets, love to stay inside and don't do well outside in the cold. Actually, they don't reach their 'full girth' until about 5 years of age. Ours weighed 205 at her heaviest, and she was by no means overweight.
She was a big baby, but very effective as a watchdog. We still miss her, but have opted for smaller dogs that fit in the bathtub! Good luck!
