A little over a month ago I had posted
on how we cleared out the undergrowth
in the "island" of trees in the back yard.
April 2012
June 29, 2012
This is what we came home to yesterday.
April 2012
Same view today.
A storm of straight line winds came
barreling through the area last night
around 5:00.
We lost a huge portion of this old Ash Tree.
You can see at the top of this photo,
the thing sticking up in the air is
the broken limb.
This is where it broke off the tree!
To add insult to injury on the way down
it took of the whole top to
the pine tree next to it!
We kept commenting today just how blessed
we were to have cleared out the
undergrowth in April.
The job of clearing the area today
would have tripled!
My dear Dad and Wayne spent hours
with their chain saws
tackling the fallen limbs.
Thankfully
non of the trees near the house fell!
On the other side of the yard we
lost this sizable limb.
And right behind that,
this old apple tree was
toppled causing root and all
to raise up out of the ground!
And a large branch from our neighbor's tree
is resting in the orchard!
And if that were enough,
the same storm sent another neighbor's tree
down within inches from
the cottage where my sweet inlaws live.
So after hours of sawing wood....
Hauling and stacking the usable fire wood....
and
dragging the branches to the curb....
all in almost 100 degree heat...
It is plain to see we aren't done yet!
We are just praising God that no one was hurt!

That was some wind . . . Happy no one was near the trees when they fell. Looks like you have great clean up help!!
Ouch!
So glad that all the limbs and trees missed your lovely home. Good luck with the clean-up.
Were you home during the strom and did you see or hear the trees come down?
That's some major damage.
amazing what mother nature can do! good thing your clean up crew could go right to work! good job!
Oh Dee - so glad to hear that none of the trees fell on your house. We are always afraid of that here - so we chopped down a few threes and limbs of ones that looked ominous.
What a pity that you lost those lovely trees. Those old ones are so beautiful. But had you waited to clear - it would have been worse.
Take your time doing the work - especially in this heat.
Blessings...
Linda
WOW! That last photo is SOMETHING! Well, you won't believe it, but I, too, had a big limb come down earlier today, in the late afternoon. We had thunderstorms and this limb fell between the trunk and the end of our house and little shed! God was good to me. Nothing like what you had though... But the good Lord was good to you also! You had SO MUCH come down, so many limbs! You must be good people for God to take care of you! :)
Want to come help me now cut and clean up my big limb? ;)
Best,
Gloria xxoo
p.s. Oh, and I forgot to say that we were both lucky that our houses were left intact and nobody was hurt on either of our properties! Praise the Lord!!

Thank goodness they didn't hit the house. At least ya got some fire wood out of it! Good luck!
Hi DeeDee: Long time, no see. I'm so far behind in answering everyone, but I'm glad I caught up to you. How horrible. Those are some big limbs and thank heaven they didn't fall on anything or anyone. On the bright side, you will stay warm this winter..Happier Sunday..Judy
What a horrible storm...so glad your house is okay and nobody was hurt. I can imagine the clean up. We did something similar last summer at my Grandma's after a tornado dropped trees on her house and all over her yard. It was a lot of work...but thankfully not as hot as it is for you. 100 degree clean up...ouch!
Glad no one was hurt. That was a tough clean-up in the heat!
Oh gosh! So scary!! I don't like those falling trees (we have a lot of trees too). Thankfully it didn't hit the house or harm anyone. What a lot of work for the guys! Wow!!!
Wow-what a mess! We lost a tree last week and we didn't even have a storm! I was inside and I heard a noise, I looked out and one of our huge (we have 4) Bradford Pear trees had split in 2 and half was in the yard. My husband didn't have the tools (or someone to help) to take it down, so we had to hire a guy...$225!! It provided the shade for our deck so I feel like the yard is so naked now, but I'm grateful I wasn't outside with Zoe at the time.
I am so glad everyone is okay! What a project! We lost some trees in the winter! On the bright side....you have plenty of firewood!
blessings,
karianne
