Simple Pleasures

I am linking to Simple Pleasures
A special thank you to Dayle our hostess!

My simple pleasure this week is breakfast with Nona.

Nona is my paternal Grandma.
Within the past two years she has suffered two major strokes.
Each one robbing her of daily functions we often take for granted.
She now requires 24 hour care, much like a infant would require.
My mom and dad made the loving decision to care
for her fulltime in their home.
Three days a week, I have the honor of assisting in her care
while my children are in school.
My parents live "out in the country" and are
blessed with an amazing view over looking a small valley.
Each morning Nona and I watch out the window
at the view and birds at mom's feeders.
We never know what type of birds we will observe.
During the summer we see hummingbirds and
bright yellow finches.
During the winter, we get Blue Jays and Cardinals!
I treasure my Nona!

My heart just leaps every time I read about you taking care of your Grandma, especially when you write that it's an "HONOR" to be with her.

DeeDee, your Simple Pleasure is one that very special. You are one very extraordinary woman!
How fortunate and blessed, everyone must be to have you give your time so sweetly.

I love this. Your words just touch my heart and I can't help but think what a blessing you are to both your grandmother and your parents. You will always treasure these memories.

As for Disney...Food and Wine is so much fun. We never buy the wine, but we certainly try most of the foods. We take a couple of days and just eat our way around the countries. I love that you can try small plates of lots of things rather than spend $30 for one dinner.

What a wonderful opportunity for you both to share those special days together. I love that you think of it as a treasure.

I know what a blessing it is to care for your love ones. I went to my grandparents home two days a week for many years with my small son. It was a joy to watch him with they. I loved being there for them just like they always were for me.

This tugged at my heart. What a blessing you must be to each other. I agree with Christine. You're an "extraordinary" woman. Blessings to you and yours.

Oh Dee Dee, this is one of the most precious posts I have read in a long time. Brought tears to my eyes. You and your parents are such special angels to care for your grandmother in such a loving way. This type of care is hard work and not always pleasant, and yet you are all doing it with such a loving heart and spirit. God Bless. Thank you also for your very sweet and special comments on my post. It touched me so much. I am so sorry I dont have time to visit as much as I use to. I have taken on the job of volunteering for several seniors who need some occassional special attention. I really enjoy it, however it really does take more time than I realized it would. It's so sad that so many don't have any family like your precious grandmother does. I try my best to fill the gap. Thanks again, you really blessed me. Hugs, Marty

I know what you mean by "it is an honor" to help with her care-that is how I felt when I was able to care for my Mom and Dad. I was only able to be with them for a few days at a time but those days were very special.

Dee Dee, just finished up my post for simple pleasures, hopped on to look around at the others and ours share similarities. I enjoyed reading yours and my eyes are still wet after proofing the last words on mine. Yes, these moments are nuggets to treasure.

This post will be a blessing to many, Dee Dee. It already has been, from the comments before me, and I know others will read and be blessed. Your Nona is certainly blessed to have such devoted people around her, and what a privilege to care for those who can no longer care for themselves. The Lord's work, is what I call it.

Thanks for linking up today.

How wonderful! And an excellent reminder that we need to treasure those things we take for granted every day. I love the heart of your parents, and *your* heart for recognizing it as a privilege to care for someone so dear to you. This is just so precious!

Not only is this a simple pleasure of helping out and taking care of our families when given the opportunity, but such a blessing.

Lovely post!

I can't begin to tell you how much I love this. I loved my grandmother so much and would give nearly anything to be able to have a breakfast with her.

The fact that you see this as a blessing and a pleasure speaks volumes. So many would consider it an act of obedience. You, clearly, find it an act of love.

LOVE your simple pleasure.

This brought tears to my eyes -- how blessed your Nona is, how blessed your family is, to have this love for each other. That you find this time shared with your Nona, caring for her, as a blessing, a pleasure, and an honor, speaks volumes about who you must be as a person. This was an absolutely lovely post!

Dee Dee,
You are an angel sent straight from heaven. This is the most like Jesus one could ever become I think and you are ministering to Him when you do it. You are an amazing woman. God bless you sweet and dedicated one.
