Dressing Up the Slots

Our kitchen came with an architectural
feature that we decided to simply work with
rather than spend the big bucks to have removed.
Can you find the beam?
I did my best to add arrows!
Can you find them?
The beam goes from one side of the
kitchen to the other side of the TV room.
It is where the original home ended
and the existing addition started.
We were able to incorporate the support column
in the middle of the room into the island.
When it came to the kitchen side of the beam,
we had to get creative.
Our kitchen designer suggested adding this cute cubbie,
which fit like a glove!
I decided it would be fun
to dress up the slots
with different color towels.
These I could change depending
on the season.
My everyday look is a mix of zebra and grey!
For Christmas I went with dark gray and bright red!
Now that it is spring...
I went with yellow and gray!

The kids always like it when I buy lemons for decor!
 Soon we will have...
Homemade lemonade!

All this show and tell has me thinking...
maybe I will fill the slots with mini pumpkins for fall!

Very clever. I like the unusual things that come with older homes. We had tons of built in thingys in our big old fixer upper. I like the color pops of the towels. I'm also imagining shells on each shelf or tiny white pitchers! Pumpkins will be darling.

I love a cubby! The pumpkins will be adorable in fall. Green granny smith apples would be cute for spring or fall. So many fun things to try!

Dee Dee...

Girl those cubbies are simply darling! I love built-ins, especially where you don't expect them. And the pumpkins for fall is a great idea!

Thank you for your input yesterday too...it was very helpful to me in making my decision!

Have a great day!!!

Dee Dee, you have one of the most BEAUTIFUL kitchens I have ever seen. It is just GORGEOUS!!! I love the little cubbies. I like the towels in there too, and the baby pumpkins to put in there for fall. How about finding little tiny vases an putting in some little buds (even faux ones!) for the summer?! That would be equally adorable. OR, I just thought of THIS! How about little votive candles, but the fake ones that work on a battery? Lit up, that would look ADORABLE! Plus no need to worry about burning the house down! ;)
But I'm sure whatever next your add in the cubbies will look adorable.
Best,
Gloria

What I love about having a neutral palette in a home is the fact that you can add colour for each season, gives an entirely different look. The idea of the different towels is great!

You see - when life gives you lemons...you make lemonade. Now you have a great spot to decorate to your heart's content. I always think that imperfect spaces give us the maximum way to be creative! So - enjoy the imperfection!
