Burlap Wreath

No Budget Project January
Just how many projects can I do
using only the materials I have here
at the house?
So far...
I made my own chalk paint
and painted
a knife block
a candle holder
and
recovered an ottoman.

My newest project....
a burlap wreath!
I had wanted to try my hand at one for awhile.
I love how the unfinished edges of the burlap
create a fabulous worn texture.
To make my burlap wreath I needed
Materials:
about a yard of burlap
and
a wire hanger
Tools:
Scissors
and
a wire cutter.

Using the wire cutter, I cut
the hanger just under the twist section on one side.

Next,
I formed the hanger into a circle wreath shape.
Then ,
I cut the burlap into approximately 3in strips.

Burlap is an excellent material for this projects.
I wove the strips longways onto the end of the hanger.
I continued this until I filled the entire hanger.
Using the wire cutters I wrapped the
cut end of the hanger around the twist.
I reused a ribbon from our
Christmas Godiva box
to hang the wreath!
The other side of the mantel
received a quick "face lift" too!
This project cost me $.00!
The wire hanger... free.
The burlap... free
(is was the wrapping from a give-a-way I won years ago)
The ribbon... free!
If it weren't "No Budget January"
I would be on the hunt for red or pink burlap
and
My hanger would be shaped into a heart!
For now
I'll enjoy this one!

NICE JOB DeeDee!

Cute, Cute, Cute!

You were always making something special out of little pieces of nothing when you were a little girl and you still have that talent!

Love it! We are on the same wave length, I just made a heart shaped burlap wreath I'll be sharing soon! I love "shopping" in the house and using what you've got!

It sure doesn't look like it cost "Free". It looks expensive. Nice touch to your new mantel.

Cute, free and easy! That is my kind of project. I don't have any burlap but still it wouldn't be expensive to make at all. hugs, Linda

Very clever and maybe something I can do! I want to be a bit more clear on the directions...you cut a wide piece of burlap down the middle 3 inches wide or you cut a bunch of 3 inch long by ??? wide strips??? Remember, I'm craft impaired.

You are so creative. Never, in a million years, would I have thought of that. This reminds me...I bought paint for my knife block, but I haven't done anything with it, yet.

Thanks for your notes. :)

OMgosh I just made this same wreath only I incorporated some pumpkin garland. Love the simplicity of your with nothing on it at all but your sweet ribbon. I was going for this look only I didn't have enough burlap so I added the garland! Well as they say necessity is the mother of invention.
Have a wonderful week.
