The Provision- First Floor Tour - Before

I am joining Susan today for Metamorphosis Monday
at Between Naps on the Porch.

This is our new house!
We've named it the Provision at West Bay.
For more info on how we found this house click here!
Here is how it looked  about three weeks ago.
Here is how it looks today!
You will probably see a trend to my postings,
Metamorphosis Mondays will most likely equal
what's out at the curb for Monday morning trash pick up!
Today's Before and After= Carpet removal!
Since carpet was only installed on the first floor,
I'm using this post as an opportunity to
give you a quick tour.

The Living Room
Before carpet removal!
Entering the front door, to the right
is the living room!
I know that it is hard to tell in this photo, but the carpet
was in terrible condition and be thankful that
smell-a-vision has not yet been invented!
So out it came!
Living Room Before- Fireplace Wall
Looking back from the other side of the room you can see the
original front door.  We have many plans for this room,
including, new trim, doors, floor refinishing, fireplace surround and hearth!
For now we are happy to start with carpet removal!
Living Room Bay Window -Before
After!
Can't wait to paint the windows and add new trim!

Hall Way
Hallway- Before
Walking into the hallway off the Living Room,
turning right will get you to the front bedroom.
Front Bedroom- Before
This room was already without carpet and needed
only to be cleaned up!
Front Room - After
This room will eventually become part master closet
and master bathroom!
If you look down the hallway to the left
you would see both the first floor bathroom
and the back bedroom!
First Floor Bathroom- Before
We left the bathmats down...half the floor tile is gone!
This room will eventually be gutted and expanded
into the Front Bedroom to create the Master Bath!
At the end of the hallway is the Back Bedroom.
This room held the record for the oldest carpet in the house.
We are guessing it to be pushing 40 (at least!)!
This photo does not due it justice.... one word
Gross!
Back Bedroom- After
This room will be expanded and will become the
master bedroom.  We are hoping for a new wall
of windows against this back wall!
Back Bedroom Closet View- After
Looking back towards the Hallway from the Back Bedroom,
we are planning to create a small powder bath in some of this space!
Back in the Living Room looking thru the archway
you came to the Family Room/ Kitchen combo.

Family Room/ Kitchen

Knowing that this was a later addition to the home,
we decided to brave taking up the very dirty, faded, smelly, and stained pink
carpeting, and found this "beautiful" flooring underneath.
See my new toy!
The remaining carpet will find its way to the curb this week!
Oh..... the plans we have for this room!
New windows, french doors, gourmet kitchen, and new hardwood floors
just to name a few!
This room gives you a great view out to the property!
Kitchen- before!

Dining Room
Dining room- Before

This room was once the dining room.
It has also served as a bedroom.
And we have plans for it to become
our mudroom and laundry room.
You can enter it from both the front door
and kitchen side door.
Dining Room - After
Sans carpet!

Thanks for joining me for my first floor tour!
This week we hope to be cleaning and weather proofing
the basement!
After that, we move upstairs to demolish a small bathroom
and gut some walls!
(Wayne finally removed the dead mouse
the former owners left for us on
one of the basement shelves!)
Speaking of dead...
Wayne earned his "man points" today not only cleaning
up the mouse, but a dead raccoon we found today up in the attic!
No joke!
He has assured me that all things dead out now
in the trash pile by the curb!
(Aren't you glad that I don't photograph everything!)

Have a great week!

Oh...this brings back memories of our biggest house redo. It was a huge 3 story...4 baths and completely wallpapered. It was so full of icky stuff that we had to hire a driver and truck to make 4 trips taking away junk (really junk). We worked so hard (as you are going to) and it was so worth it when it was done. I'm glad those huge project days are behind me (at least I think they are) but I'm really going to have fun watching your house transform. It has great bones and you have great taste...it will be a showplace!

This is going to be the best documentation!
Wow! Your vision and hard work will pay off.
I'm so excited for you, Wayne and kids.
Your new home is a grand lady. She has found the right family to help her preserve her beauty.
Congratulations!

I am Thrilled! you are posting each step for us. We're with you in spirit. Much of the 'old' reminds me of my late grandmother's home. What fun you'll have making this dear house your home. :)

I'm not sure why people covered great hardwood floors -- our house had the same and I was so glad when the carpet came up!

Wow DeeDee, I'm at a loss for words. This would not be a project that Uncle Bud or I would take on. I'm excited to watch the transformation.

It looks like a diamond in the rough! What a great time you will have doing all of this...especially now that the raccoon and mouse are gone! lol I cannot wait to see you progress. Also, so excited as to how God provided this home for you and the financial goals you have set. When you are obedient to paying off debt and being debt free, HE blesses the journey...I am a firm believer in that and of course in HIS mercy and grace. So wonderful. Oh and that table...did they leave that? it looks like it could be a fun find! Older houses have GREAT bones.

Dee Dee, I love the name you chose...Provision! This house has great bones and loads of potential. I can't wait to watch the transformation! The hardwood floors look great, they are going to look incredible when they're refinished. And...the best part is all that natural light coming in through the kitchen! I'm laughing at the stack of carpet colors...you mean you didn't want to save that pink or yellow? ;)

It's going to be a little bit of a culture shock coming from the beautiful home you're in now, but it'll all be worth it in the end. When we moved to NC, we downsized from a HUGE house to a 30' RV for a year while we built the home we're in now (a couple years before we did the flip). It wasn't without struggle, but it was a year of growth that I wouldn't trade for anything. My prayer for your family is that this home will turn into a bigger blessing than any of you can imagine. So excited for you about this home---I can't wait to see more pictures!

I think you've made a smart choice. The house has great potential. Can't wait to see how it all develops. Say a prayer for guidance along the way.

Wow! This is going to be a wonderful transformation! You are so fortunate to find the original hardwood floors under that nasty carpet. Refinishing them will be a lot cheaper than laying all new floors. I'll look forward to your future posts of your renos. All the best! Pamela

Hi, I just found you on MM at BNOTP. We need to hook up! We just moved into a 25yr old house that needs all re-decorating. You are SO SO lucky to find hardwood floors under that carpeting. Unfortunately, we don't have hardwoods. We have the same burgundy colored carpet, too! It's going to be a long, long process to get our house done. I need to post the before pics. Stop by if you get a chance!

I love your very beginning BEFORE and AFTER, with all the carpet. That cracked me up! Especially since your interior pictures DO NOT do the carpet justice in terms of COLOR and CONDITION. wow.

What a great house - and I'm loving all of your ideas. Great space! I think I've got a good vision of the floor plan in my head, but where the heck are the stairs to the second floor? Is it a straight flight that you see as you walk in the front door?

I am very excited for you and can't wait to see more of this project. Hope you can make the time to share!!
