Every year my Mom and Dad
host a Pumpkin Party
for the kids and grand kids!
Over the past few years,
we have combined
a trip to the local pumpkin patch
and
a fall leaf raking, bonfire party
into one fun filled
Pumpkin Party!
Mom will prebuy big pumpkins
and use those to decorate her porch.
To make it fair we have the kids pick a number
from a bowl...
Zac (my son)
Kee (my nephew)
Bennett (my nephew)
Jamie (my niece)
Jon Mark (my nephew)
While Nona (above)
and
Mom Mom watched on...
the kids
carved pumpkins!
As the kids get older,
they take over the carving.
Happy to report, no one lost a finger
Love the finished pumpkins!
Of course, Mom made plenty of yummy food!
A festive birthday cake for Nona...
candy corn and pumpkin gumballs
( a big hit!)
Pumpkin cookies...
homemade Carmel corn
and...
making for so mores!
For dinner we had sloppy joes, hot dogs,
brats and pumpkin pasta!
Dad and Mom even made a fire pit for roasting
We all celebrated Nona's birthday!
Blowing out the candles...
with a little "help"!
The boys talked Grandpa into getting
out his pellet air riffle
for some target practice!
Even Grandpa got into the act!

Dee Dee, you have such a wonderful family! These are great memories for your children too. With other families celebrating on Thanksgiving, we have tried to do something similar the week before Thanksgiving, but I REALLY like your family's Halloween celebration... we might have to change our tradition next year!
What a great tradition! And it sounds like so much fun. I love the picture with all the kiddos and their pumpkins.

OK... I LOVE this one. Not only am I a bit of a pumpkin freak, but more than that I'm a huge extended family freak. I love what you said about cousins being FRIENDS. That's the way it is around here, too. You are so very blessed to live close to your family and to appreciate the simple pleasure of family traditions with them.
Just great!!

I love the pumpkins and how nicely everyone carved them. Makes a great header photo. We can't even get pumpkins over here. Boo! (And I mean that literally :) What a wonderful time spent with family and you truly are lucky to still have your grandmother's around. I miss mine so much and they've been gone for 22 years and more. Wishing you all the best, Tmamy
What fun! I still love going to the pumpkin patch, even as an adult. :) I'm visiting from the Simple Pleasures party. Stop by if you get a chance. :)
this looks like so much fun....the best kind of fun.
Dee Dee, my daughter found these cute and easy Halloween treats online at http://www.ourbestbites.com/2009/10/easy-halloween-party-food.html I thought you might like them for next year's party. I made the pretzel rods and the cheesy fingers. She's making the mummies... too cute! Happy Halloween!
I love this, Dee Dee! Bonfires, roasting marshmallows, family gaterings - all these things are a wonderful simple pleasure.
Blessings,
Joan
I was thinking as I read this how lucky you are. I was lucky to have 3 of my grandparents into my 40's and my kids got to know them. My kids are in their 20's and have had until we lost my mom, all three grandparents...so I feel blessed too. What we didn't have is all living in the same town. We lived 25 miles from my parents for a few years when the kids were born and that was wonderful.
This looks like such fun!
