Chickadee 3

I was so excited to be able to participate in this weeks

The challenge this week was to create a picture using only 3 colors.
Those three colors could be used along with White
to make a total of 6 colors.

I decided to keep my pallet very neutral and used
Burnt Umber
Yellow Ochre
Unbleached Titanium
and
Titanium White!

Chickadee 3- oil on gesso board- 6"x 6"

One of my very favorite little birds to watch!
You captured him beautifully.

Question... did it start out as something else, like several other of your wonderful paintings? I think it's so creative, to start out with something and end up with something totally different, like "Up Passed Midnight" did.

Your talent amazes me!

Hi Christine, no this one actually started out as a chickadee.. of course I "finished" him a total of 3 times after I had signed the painting! After round One I wanted him to be alittle darker on the chest so I changed him a up bit... Round two I called my thumb print edition.... where his sweet little chest had more texture and resembled a finger print... I went back to look at the first photo I had taken and decided I preferred a softer looser stroke so back I went and played with it until I completed what you see here! This painting was a result of a challenge using only three colors... so I had my direction set when I started! Of course tomorrow is my morning at the studio and I am already trying to figure out what I will do tomorrow! God has really guided this whole experience and I am finding I love to paint! Now I just need more hours in the day!

Dee dee you have such an amazing talent! I love this little chickadee and the fact that your color choices were limited. It really demonstrates your creativity beautifully. Keep on painting...i love seeing your completed artwork.
