It has been forever since I updated the blog.
The day before Christmas my laptop
decided it had lived a nice life and was ready to retire!
It took till yesterday to secure a replacement.
I am so thankful that they were
able to recover all my files and photos!
What a blessing!
The week after Thanksgiving our family suffered
the loss of our precious Grandma (Great Grandma),
Nona.
Her wishes were not to have a traditional funeral here in town.
Instead we will be holding a memorial service during
the annual family reunion in August.
But that left us feeling a little "empty".
So taking an idea from my dear blog friend Christine,
the family here decided to hold a balloon launch
in honor of our Nona.
We all wrote out messages and memories...
... on colorful balloons.
Letting her know just how loved
and remembered she was and is to us!
We all went outside and
sang her favorite Christmas carol
"Silent Night".
Then sent the Balloons towards Heaven!
We love you Nona!

Dee Dee I am so sorry for your loss. It's such a difficult time of the year to lose a loved one. Your baloon launch idea is simply a beautiful one. This is something that can be done whenever you feel the pain of missing your Nona. Just send up a note to her via a colorful balloon.
I wish you much happiness and joy in this new year my friend. I am so grateful to have become friends with you over the past 12 months and I look forward to our continued friendship in 2013.

Nona, I'm sure was looking down with love all over her face. To have your family come together and remember her with colorful balloons, and celebrate her life, is a sweet tribute to her.
I liked what Barbara said about sending one up every once in awhile, when you really miss her.

What a wonderful way to remember Nona. One of my sweetest memories of her was hearing her sing Silent Night after devotions. It touched my soul. I will miss her. You were such a blessing in her life as you cared for her so faithfully and lovingly... a treasure to her, indeed. Nona - loved, missed, remembered.

Oh my goodness, I am so sorry for your loss of Nona! But as I read your post, I got choked up and had tears in my eyes because what a BEAUTIFUL idea to do for her with the balloons!!!! Oh God, to have everyone there (your photos were great showing everyone and everything) and making the balloons/writing on them... Man, I'm sure your Nona is so honored and happy to have seen that from Heaven. I'd LOVE for that tribute to be given to me upon my passing! (As strange as it may seem, I'm only 54, but I am going to ask my son to do this for ME when it's my time! I think it's a wonderful, loving, happy tribute!) Well, Dee Dee, my heart goes out to you in your loss. You are a wonderful person, so I know that your Nona must have been a wonderful person also. :)
