Cottage Landscaping

This past week was Spring Break for the kids,
so not alot of work took place at The Provision.
However,
 between celebrating Zac's 16th Birthday,
a showing on our home for sale,
and generally crazy weekend schedule...
we took some time to work on the exterior of the Cottage.
Here is the listing photo of the cottage
before we purchased it 4 months ago!
Besides the rose bush in the front and the bush
beside the front porch, very little had been done
in the way of landscaping or curb appeal.
Here is another before photo of the home in January.
It was high time to add some new beds and plants
to the landscaping!
We added mini box woods along the side walk leading to the front door!
We also added landscape lights, hopefully to
light the path in the evening!

We continued the bed across the front of the Cottage,
incorporating the round iron container
previously "floating" in the front yard.

We planted three of these "mop tops" along the front beds!
Ending with a forsythia at the corner of the house!
We also decided to add some shutters to the front left
window and to the two windows along the "door"
side of the house!
We also took advantage of the nicer weather
and power washed the front and door side of the house!
Both the "mamma goose" and "baby goose" were decked
out for the soaking.
We are debating as to paint the awnings or not.
Maybe white?  Any thoughts?
As stated before, we added shutters to the "door side of the house too!
What a difference a little power washing does...
good bye build-up of green mildew!
I am linking to Metamorphosis Monday
over at Between Naps on the Porch.

This is the cutest little place. You certainly have a lot going on. How do you find the time? What about painting the awnings black? White would look good too, if they didn't get too dirty.

Great curb appeal and you didn't even have help from HGTV.

You took a Ugly Ducking and turned her into a Swan!
I really like those "mop tops" in the front.
As far as the yawnings, I like what Sue mentioned, black, because you have the black mailbox and address numbers.

DeeDee, you and Wayne have made this world a better place (in more ways then remolding). Your inlaws are very fortunate to have you in their lives.

it looks just wonderful! I, too, love the shudders and all of the plantings. And I like the green on the awnings.

Hi DD,

When we lived in Ohio, there was a house that I really liked and it used gray with yellow. That combination was new to me at the time, but I have continued to like it everytime I see it.

I could see either charcoal or a lighter gray as a pretty accent color on the awning. I always really like white, too... it makes things look fresh and clean.

I am enjoying viewing all of the progress on both homes. You have SO much vision and energy!!! :-) Love, Aunt Theta

Oh, how I love to see new things with the "cottage!" I am just getting to view a lot of my fav bloggers after being without a laptop for weeks, and your cottage posts are my favorite. And I have a BOLD idea: How about a bright blue for the awnings??? That would really make them pop! But I do agree with painting them, whatever color you choose, because it will freshen them up. And I LOVE the landscaping you did! Great job.
Best,
Gloria

Another fun post. I can't get enough of these. The shutters made such a difference! I like the idea of a contrasting color of the awning. If you paint...how about charcoal gray that goes with the roof?
