The Cottage- Part 3

The Cottage- Part 3
Kitchen & Details

Well, it's been busy here but,
I'm happy to report that my in laws were
moved into the cottage this weekend!

In case you missed the "befores"
click here to see Part 1.

To see how we lightened it up
click here to see Part 2.

Today I thought I would wrap up the
cottage postings with a few of the new details
and a complete tour of the kitchen transformation!

The Front Door
Look closely, and you can still see the
bright Pepto pink left by the former owner.
While I do like pink, this color just would not do!
The door after one coat of dark gray!
This photo gives you a better look at the pink!
We were so blessed to come upon this beautiful
solid brass lock and handle set at 75% off!
Sold!
I love how the brushed bronze plays
against the white inside the door!
Ahhh... improvement!

The  Bedroom Closet
While the inside of the closet is nice and roomy,
we felt it did not utilize the space in the best way.
We ended up taking down the single iron bar
and replaced it with two tiers of wire shelves.

Re-created Bathroom Light
Remember the original kitchen light?
The globe less bathroom fixture hanging
from the kitchen ceiling beam
finally found its way back to the bathroom!
Using some spray paint and three "free"
globes found at a local thrift store
we removed the Hollywood lights and
installed the former "kitchen" fixture!
(globes were free thanks to a $5 free coupon)

The Kitchen
Even though the kitchen is small,
it had both a new fridge and stove.
Like the rest of the house,
it needed just a little brightening!
My Mother-In-Law requested
that instead of leaving the cabinets white
that we mix it up and go yellow!
Great Idea!
So we created a spray box and
using our new paint sprayer..
sprayed both sides of the doors
then hung them
to dry in the closet!
I love the way they turned out!
On request, we also sprayed my MIL's
wonderful plate rack and then hung it above the sink.
Remember the old light?
I was blessed to find this one on clearance
for only $19.99!
The globes can be positioned to
light up the entire kitchen!
The counter, sink and faucet are all
in excellent condition.
We went with bronze knobs
to play off the bronze light fixture.

Wayne built a shelf for the microwave,
freeing more counter space!
Some daytime shots!

Thank you so much for visiting today.
I hope you have enjoyed the
cottage transformation as much as
I've enjoyed getting to share it with you!

Come spring,
we have some plans for the outside...
including...
power washing,
removing the awning over the kitchen window,
adding shutters,
landscaping,
landscape lighting,
fencing
and
 possible painting!

I am linking to Metamorphosis Monday
over at Between Naps on the Porch!
Thank you to our hostess Susan!

Hold on I have to shut my jaw! Wow!!! This is amazing. I love everything you did. the cupboards are great and I think you got your money out of that paint sprayer. I also like how you reused some of the things that were there. Your mother-in-law's plate rack looks like it was an original part of the kitchen! You guys did an incredible job. Wow!!!

Oh, Dee Dee... I am just speechless at how you and your husband have transformed this lovely little house. I MUST say that you are the BEST daughter-in-law!!! My son is only 20, but I PRAY that he would find such a lovely girl as you are. And how nice of you to honor your MIL's request for the yellow cabinets in the kitchen!! (Although I am sure that your husband said, "Hey, we'd BETTER listen to my Mom!" Good son!!!!! Kisses to him! LOL!) But, seriously, you guys did a terrific job, an AMAZING job on this home for your in-laws. I certainly hope that they appreciate it!! YOU tell your mother-in-law for me that she has a WONDERFUL DIL and a TERRIFIC son that they would do this for her!! (I'm sure your father-in-law just goes: "Nice!" You know men!! LOL!) Again, congrats on your transformation and I can't wait to see how you 'spruce up' the outside for the Spring! Hopefully, you will give me some ideas! :)
Best,
Gloria

P.S. Oh, I forgot to say that I loved your MIL's idea of that plate rack! LOVE IT! She is a smart lady to include that, and you and HER SON (what a good son!) are very good to include it and adhere to her wishes. :)

One more thing! I am reading your comments and Gillian Layne, above, said: "Please continue to post as many pictures as possible." I WHOLEHEARTELY AGREE!! You may think this idea, these posts on the inside of the cottage is done, but we want to see what goes on from now... the decorations, the furniture, the curtains/drapes, everything!! Please tell your MIL that we will love to see it!! That we will be HONORED to see it all. :)
Best,
Gloria

Such a wonderful transformation. You did a fantastic job on everything (fresh white woodwork to give it that cottage feel, beautiful job on the cabinets, great light fixture---and a wonderful find for the price)----I like it all!

A+++++++++++++++++++++ I'm sure your in-laws will like it there.
