The Cottage- Part 1

The Cottage- Part One
The Before
Wayne and I purchased this
sweet little house last month.

My in-laws will be moving in by the end of this month,
but until then we have been busy working
on some interior cosmetic updates!

I wanted to start off by giving you the
tour of before shots!
This is the view walking in the front door.
This is the living room!
Notice the beautiful coiffured ceilings.
To the immediate left (out of view on this photo) is
The kitchen.
This was the light fixture that was hanging
in the kitchen.
Yes, that is a bathroom light fixture,
minus the globes hanging off the center beam!
From the front door the next room you
see is the laundry/ storage room.
This was the original bedroom to the house,
before the current bedroom addition!
Off the laundry room is the bathroom!
Just the perfect size for this
cracker box home!
This is the view looking from the
laundry room back into the family room!
The bedroom sits off to the back of the house.
Instead of the knotty pine paneling,
this room is covered with "den" paneling.
Notice, too, the "checkerboard ceiling".
The former owner had just installed
new carpeting in the bedroom!
The closet has barn style doors
which open allowing full access!

This shot is looking from the bedroom
back into the living room!
Can you see the "pepto pink" on the front door?

Now, we bought the house because
despite the fact it is 105 years old,
it is in very good condition.
During closing we were fortunate
to get some history of our new place.
It started off as a summer kitchen for the big
farmhouse next door.
Later, it was converted into a garage.
Some time after the "Big War" housing
was needed for returning soldiers and our place
was turned into a finished house.

So what changes are we making....
let just say it has involved 11+ gallons of Kilz
and our new "toy"!

Join me next week for
The Cottage- Part Two!
The Whitening
( sneak peek below!)

I am posting to
A big thank you to Susan our wonderful hostess!

We have a lake cottage that has knotty pine walls. I have kept them for 4 years and every year I hate them more and more. I think this is my year to paint! Can't wait to see and read part 2!

Now that is a lot of dark wood. The places looks so cute and I love the ceilings. About your new toy...don't start telling Wayne that you really love it because on your birthday you never know what you will get. I speak from experience.....electric buffer for our boat. I have not used it once......you have been warned. Looking forward to seeing pictures.

As I scrolled down through the before photos, I kept thinking, "paint it white, white paint" and sure enough, you are!!! I will look forward to seeing the result soon.

This is exciting for you & your family and for all of us.
I love Before & After pictures. This is going to be fun (at least for your followers, we aren't doing the work).

Love it so far!

Wow! That is a lot of wood. I can already tell your makeover is going to be fabulous. My first husband and I purchased a tiny 950 square foot house as our first and totally made it over, with hardwood floors. I loved that little house and honestly, a sweet little house is all any of us need. Look forward to the redo on this one. Best wishes to you and thanks for stopping by. Tammy
