Well, we have finally made the decision
to have granite installed in the kitchen!
Meaning that prior to vacation I spent an afternoon
or two,
hunting down the "perfect" granite
at the more important "perfect" price.
I am very, very frugal!
Imagine my surprise when God lead me to a
local granite fabricator, who just happened to have
enough opps/ remnant of our first choice granite
at an unbelievable price!
(They had just bought several slabs of "my" granite
that had cracked straight down the middle during shipping.
Meaning that we got a fabulous deal!)
Now here is where the fun starts...
When we built the home 6 years ago, we had the option
of installing a high breakfast bar, or creating a low one.
After much debate, we went with the high one...
which in the end,
turned out to be too high.
So with the on set of new counters...
down comes the high bar!
Wayne starting the deconstruction process!
Off comes the corbels...
and
Off comes the counter top!
Finally we deconstruct the wall till it is even with
the existing counter!
The gentleman from the counter top place came
yesterday afternoon to take measurements for
the new counters!
They are set to be installed on September 8th!
Which means our next project is selecting
and installing a back splash.
I've picked out paint for the office, now I just
need the motivation to paint!

Awesome Dee Dee! It will look fantastic!
Happy painting! :)
How exciting! When we spend so much time in our kitchens and it's important to have them function well. And with a fabulous deal, it makes the upgrade worthwhile.
Tell Wayne I like the color of his crocs! Levi has the same color crocs.
You are busy! Your kitchen will look beautiful with your new granite! I have black granite in my kitchen (white cabinets) & I love it.
I'm jealous! Aunt Jude
Oh Dear, that photo of your hubby ripping out the counter makes me nervous!!! ;) How exciting, love the color, & what a great deal you pondered upon!

Thanks for stopping by my blog last week!
Enjoyed exploring your blog. You look like me, always changing, updating, painting (takes some getting in the mood for) something :) Your house is looking beautiful.
What fun you guys are having! I love the colour of your granite.
Best wishes,
Natasha.
You are so lucky! I have been dreaming of granite countertop since we bought our house 7 years ago. We just have s lot of countertop to cover and when I price it...and when I know we won't live here forever or maybe even 5 more years...I just can't cost justify it. We are going to do something this winter to get rid of my bland countertops...but I don't think it will be what I really want. Can't wait to see yours all finished!
Thanks for visiting my blog :) I can't wait to redo our kitchen - I'm so jealous of your new countertops! I'm sure they will look amazing :) We had to do something similar with our "bar" in our last house - it was amazing how lowering it a few inches made the room seem so much more spacious! I'll check back for pictures of the finished product :)

What an ambitious project to begin as the school year brings its busyness! Good luck.
